Preliminary Round planned by SOC, held at Ashurst & Matley on 16 February 2014
Well done everyone – we did it - we were first!
Yesterday was brilliant and we achieved our first target of the year which was to qualify for the Compass Sport Trophy Final – we certainly did that in style winning convincingly. We managed to have almost every counter gaining either 100 or 99 points (first or second) in the Trophy Competition and our non-counters did a superb job in blocking off many of the higher points available to the other clubs so reducing their scores.
We had over 50 club members competing and the scores were –
WIM 1291
BADO 1260
NWO 1181
GO 1139
WSX 1137
We now go through to the National Final which is being held at Long Valley North (close to Aldershot and Farnborough) on Saturday 8th November 2014 and organised by Southern Navigators. Please put this date in your diaries now. Details of the other clubs that have qualified can be found at http://www.pgopage.co.uk/compasssportcup.htm So far 9 clubs (including us) have qualified for the Small Clubs Trophy Competition and there is still one more round to be held in the Midlands from which I would anticipate one more club qualifying for our competition which will give us a final of 10 clubs.
In some ways we have achieved the easier target which was to qualify for the final. The next target of trying to achieve a top 3 place in the final will be harder and will depend very much on how many people we manage to turn out as the non-counters will be as important as the counters because they block off points that other clubs could gain.
